About Us

At PFLAG Gillette, we are proud friends, family, and allies who support, educate, and do advocacy work for the LGBTQ+ community. This is an organization led solely by dedicated volunteers who are committed to making a better future for LGBTQ+ Wyomingites in the NE Wyoming area. We believe in leading with love and showing kindness to all persons, regardless of their background.

Our Story

How We Started

PFLAG Gillette was founded in 2014 by a group of three friends who were tired of the discriminatory tone found within letters to their local newspaper. They decided to take matters into their own hands and create an accepting safe space for those without a voice.

 

Our Impact

Since 2014, the chapter has been growing, hosting monthly support meetings, providing educational programs, and planning social events for local LGBTQ+ people, their families, friends, and allies. Through the gracious help of our volunteers, we have regularly implemented our chapters’ three pillars which are to Support, Educate, and Advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and their needs.

We provide various free and cost-efficient programs for our community including:

▸ Monthly Support Group in a safe space
▸ Social Gatherings (movie screenings, game nights, potlucks, holiday events, craft nights)
▸ Directory of LGBTQ+ friendly healthcare providers, businesses & churches
▸ Scholarships to students in GSA who demonstrate compassion, leadership, and a concern for social justice

Education for all about the unique issues and challenges facing people who are LGBTQ+

▸ Speaker panels composed of allies, family members, and LGBTQ+ persons
▸ Programming by professionals covering issues such as HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, suicide prevention, and community safety▸ Hosting guest speakers from various foundations
▸ Providing print resources to local businesses sharing what we do and who we serve
▸ Allowing our members to be speakers in the community

Advocate for dignity, respect, and equal treatment for the LGBTQ+ community
